The Yurt

Notice all the Red Lights....most lifts and all bowls closed due to high winds

It really wasn't that cold

The Yurt!!!

Freeeee Food!!!

Last Sunday, most of Vail mountain was closed due to high winds....what to do? We found a Yurt to take shelter in. To our suprise, there was a ton of hotdogs, burgers, chips, etc. in the Yurt for Skier appreciation weekend. This is greatness on a mountain where most hamburgers cost $13 or more. We decided to take full advantage of this and eat our faces off. Not that best food I've had, but definitely the cheapest...good story ;). Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Mary's Hamburgers

We were walking on 17th street in Denver and ran into a hamburger joint I own....apparently the burgers are great served to you by drag queens...seriously, not a joke. We decided not to go in, but hope to soon :). I thought Deen coined the phrase "Eat, Drink, and Be Mary!" for our Christmas card, but apparently it has been used before. Happy Saturday!

Tony Furtado

Tony Furtado

Pam, Joy, and I after the show

Pam, Tony, and I...we all go way back :)
We also saw a great show on Saturday night...Tony Furtado at Swallow Hill Music School. Swallow Hill is a really small venue in an old church which is now a music school. Kind of a random venue, but very intimate. Pam and I got a picture w/ Tony!!! Was introduced to Tony Furtado in college and have loved his bluegrass music ever since. He's amazing on the banjo. Check him out at http://www.tonyfurtado.com/ Some of my favorite songs are Rove Riley Rove, False Hearted Lover, and Hazel Comes home (my all time favorite). Let me know what ya'll think...hope everybody has a great week!

The Kitchen

My friends, Joy and Chip, came to visit Denver this weekend. We had a great time eating, hiking, and seeing a great show. On Saturday, we hiked around Chautauqua in Boulder and ate lunch at The Kitchen. Chautauqua is a national landmark in the middle of Boulder with great hiking trails. They also offer lodging, concerts, a restaurant, etc. Find out more at http://www.chautauqua.com/. Back to the food...The Kitchen only offers food from local farms and the food is delicious. Joy and Chip are now vegetarians after reading the book, Eating Animals by Jonathan Foer, so this was a great option. They seriously made me think about my daily consumption of meat.
Anywho, the atmosphere in the restaurant is very cool with clean modern decorations. I love it! The picture is of our dessert of homemade donuts with a spicy chocolate dipping sauce. Joy decided to drink it ;), it was seriously that good. Find out more at http://www.thekitchencafe.com/.

Family in Vail

Had a great time this weekend with my two younger brothers and dad. We skied Vail Saturday and Sunday. Two bluebird days of sun and spring skiing. I was very impressed with their ski skills :) We all enjoyed shredding the gnar, relaxing in the condo, eating good food, and watching the Oscars. Way to go Hurt Locker! Of course, I will mention some food choices...enjoyed brunch on Sunday at Blus near the creek in Vail. Enjoyed great blueberry pancakes and coffee. My dad ordered green eggs and ham..a twist on eggs benedict with spinach and capers. Delish! Thanks Dad for the great weekend...sorry about the first few runs at Blue Sky Basin ;)!
